Friends and Neighbors

As I walk my dog Onyx each day through our neighborhood, I wonder, why are we neighbors so distant theses days? I can recall years ago, everyone knew each other; everyone wanted to help in a neighborly way. We, with all the daily stresses that life brings; don’t seem to do that any longer.

I know I have used the services of a plumber, a seamstress and some yard help from a helpful teen. They all did quality work and I was happy to pay someone I knew. I believe in passing on the names of those I do businesses with when someone needs the help of a professional. Our neighborhood can reap the benefits from one friend to another. I think one way we can feel a little more neighborly is to introduce ourselves and by doing so, maybe when a helping hand is needed, we know we could turn first to someone close by.
